Draw Near 2017

A Creative Worship Retreat

WE WOULD LOVE FOR YOU TO JOIN US!

Draw Near is for the daughter, mother, sister and friend who longs to take time away to hear from God. By exploring creativity in worship we open our hearts to hear from God in a whole new way. With large group gatherings and intimate breakouts our time is designed to give you a unique worship experience. We will explore things like creative prayer, holy yoga, #scripturedoodle, writing, worship through hospitality, even experiencing God in nature. Our prayer is that you will leave our time together having found a new place of worship with a fresh heart for God.

WEAVING

ASHTON ZAGER

Ashton Zager is a fiber artist based out of her home in Asheville, North Carolina. A self taught artist, she creates a wide array of woven art.  She fell upon weaving one fall when she decided to make all of her Christmas presents and decided to make a wall hanging for her sister. Before she knew it, she was weaving into the late hours of the night and there a creative side of herself was born she never knew she had. What once was just a hobby has now become a small business that continues to grow.

The Process...

Rarely are my weavings thought out beforehand and never are they sketched out. It starts with the chaos of a basket of fibers and from that, I create a place where they belong. Each piece has a story, one that cannot always be communicated through words. I have seen every plan I've ever had in life go awry in the best of ways and from that mess, the Lord has worked my heart like a medium. One by one, each experience and season of my life is woven together to create a masterpiece, which is me.

HAND STAMPED JEWELRY

LORA ROGERS

Lora Rogers has been making jewelry for almost 12 years. She truly believes that creativity is one of God's greatest gifts in life! She always feels closer to Him when she's making something with her hands. And it is her prayer that His love is expressed through the little things that she makes.

Lora really loves to pray and worship as she cuts, hammers, and works with metals like sterling silver, brass, and copper. As she hammers out scriptures and spiritual truths into each piece of metal, she prays that the wearer will feel the presence of God every time they wear the jewelry. She truly believes there is power in wearing the Word! It is a daily reminder to walk in the truth that God is speaking to you on a deep, personal level. It can become a declaration!

Lora also loves to find beauty in the forgotten; in the things of the past that have been cast aside (such as antique keys and vintage jewelry components). There's something so healing and redemptive in taking something old and making something new out of it. That's also what God has done for us - He's picked us up, dusted us off, washed us  clean and made us a NEW creation!

Lora lives with her husband and five children on their small farm in Waxhaw, NC. They share it with six goats and ten chickens.

HAND LETTERING

JASMINE MULLINS

Jasmine Mullins loves creating letters of all sizes, from penning brush letters on envelopes to creating large-scale signs and murals, but she specializes in chalkboard signs. As a preschooler, Jasmine began her love of lettering while drawing alongside her dad, a sign painter, creating "signs" of her own with sharpies on giant sheets of butcher paper.

Feeling it some self-taught skills, she worked as a graphic designer for 9 years, but it didn't give her the fulfillment of putting a pen or paintbrush to paper! She felt led to begin regularly lettering and sketching scripture as a way to study the Bible and deepen her relationship with God, and she developed her brush lettering skills while creating scripture art she gifted to others.

Today, she is a mother of 2 creative teenagers, the Artist in Residence at Boone Hall Plantation in Charleston, SC, and has her own business, Sight to Behold, creating signs (just like her daddy!).

ABSTRACT ACRYLIC PAINTING

CHELLE FAZAL

As a child, Chelle would spend hours watching animal nature shows. How they lived, ate, acted, and socialized fascinated her. The day her step-father gave her a set of colored pencils was the day she began trying to duplicate those animals on paper. Without her knowledge, the small gift he had given her was the key to unlocking an untapped passion for art.

On a mission trip to Sri Lanka, Chelle was inspired as she took photos of elephants at an elephant orphanage. After a two year wait, due to work and raising children, those same photos became the reference points for some of her most recent works.

Chelle lives in Charleston, SC with her husband, Mahmood, and her two sons, Evan and Julian. She professes that Mahmood has been her greatest challenger and encourager. No work is complete until she has received his feedback and they agree together on the finished piece.

“I want my animal paintings to tell a story; but mainly, I want to communicate joy in all my work.”
Chelle Fazal

Accommodations

Accommodations

The beautiful Cedar Mountain lodge is where we’ll make our home for the weekend. The focal point of this retreat lodge is the central great room with a wood-burning fireplace, horseshoe balcony, and a two-story wall of windows overlooking Cedar Mountain and the Doe River. The lodge has a sweet yet sophisticated summer camp feel.

**Each room features nine bunks with personal closet space for each woman as well as restroom accommodations**

Our desire is that these suites will be a meaningful place of community and prayer. We will prayerfully place each of you in a room with others. If you are coming on the retreat with a friend, contact us if you desire to be in the same room.

We ask that you furnish your own bedding for your bunk: pillow, sheets, blanket or sleeping bag.  If you are flying in from out of town and this is not possible for you, just contact us and we will accommodate your needs.

*Remember your registration fee includes all food, lodging and supplies for the entire weekend.
